For SIL providers

Training and workforce records for supported independent living, mapped to the SIL supplementary standards.

CORA maps training, credentials and worker records to the three workforce-facing standards inside the SIL supplementary Practice Standards module: Supported Decision-Making, Safeguarding and Practice Governance. A SIL shift is nothing like a community access run. You are in someone's home, often at odd hours, sometimes supporting more than one person with complex needs sharing a kitchen, and the margin for a wrong call is smaller than it looks on paper.

What changed for SIL providers on 1 July 2026?

Supported independent living became its own NDIS registration category, support item 0138, on 1 July 2026. Every provider delivering SIL-funded supports now registers specifically against it and is assessed against a new supplementary module sitting on top of the Core Module they already meet.

The Commission built the module around four standards. Three are workforce standards: Supported Decision-Making (decisions about a person's home, routines and relationships are made by them, not for them), Safeguarding (people living in SIL are safe from violence, abuse, neglect and harm, while still supported to have choice and dignity of risk), and Practice Governance (supervision and worker systems reflect what actually happens in the house, not just what a policy document says should). The fourth, agreements about tenancy, housing and support, is participant-side paperwork that sits with a provider's client management system, not with workforce evidence.

Where CORA holds the workforce evidence

Supported Decision-Making. The free Pathway Builder maps training around the actual people a house supports, not a generic support-worker role, so a house supporting someone with high support needs around communication and choice gets a demonstrably different training plan. Person-Centred Active Support and the 34 courses in the Disability Understanding & Daily Life stream carry the training itself.

Safeguarding. Restrictive Practices & PBS Fundamentals, Emergency, Disaster & Incident Response and the wider Behaviour Support & Crisis stream carry the training. Worker screening currency, the artefact a Safeguarding audit checks first, is held in the credential register with expiry warnings.

Practice Governance. The training register, the supervision register and its records, performance reviews on a cycle, position descriptions per role, and the training plan showing what was assigned and completed, all on one worker record rather than a shared drive.

What CORA does not cover for a SIL provider

Tenancy and housing agreements sit outside CORA, and so does rostering, shift swaps and payroll for a SIL house. CORA runs the workforce side, a client management system and rostering tool run the rest, and most SIL providers run both alongside each other without overlap.

The full detail on the module and where each standard lives is at the new SIL Practice Standards, what changed on 1 July 2026.

Common questions

One that maps training to the SIL supplementary Practice Standards, holds a credential register with expiry tracking for shared-house workforces, and can show a training plan built around the actual people in each house rather than a generic support-worker role. CORA does all three on one worker record.

Yes. Courses and assessed decisions map to the NDIS Practice Standards, including the workforce-facing parts of the SIL supplementary module: Supported Decision-Making and Safeguarding as worker skills, and Practice Governance as the training, supervision and worker records behind the house.

No. The fourth SIL standard, agreements about tenancy, housing and support, is participant-side paperwork between the person, their housing arrangement and their support arrangement. That sits with a provider's client management system, not with CORA. CORA runs the workforce side.

Supported independent living became its own NDIS registration category, support item 0138, from 1 July 2026, with a supplementary module of Practice Standards assessed alongside the Core Module.

No. CORA holds training, credentials, supervision and worker records. It does not run rosters, shift swaps or payroll. Most SIL providers run CORA alongside their existing rostering and practice management system.
